Vinyl Record Clubs

Would you join a Vinyl Record Club?

The BBC recently ran an article on the increasing popularity of Record Clubs in London and likened them to Book Clubs. The article reported Vinyl Record Clubs as a place for heavy thinking about music with no noise and no loo breaks when the turntable's spinning! I don't think it has to be like that, it's your club, the members decide.

Unofficial Vinyl clubs have always existed since the gramophone record became popular in homes. Listening with friends and family to the latest records, was often the best way to hear new LPs. The radio would introduce people to an Artist, but to hear a whole LP the only option was to buy or be social .

Vinyl Record Clubs are a way of socialising with people whom share a common interest, music and the art of the vinyl record sleeve. They are members clubs and as such the members make the rules, it can either be formal or as informal as some mates getting together for a few beers with some vinyl on the turntable.

When an Artist creates an LP they put effort into the story of the album as a whole. Would you read just one chapter from a book?

Choosing a Play list
The LP line up should be decided on between all attendees. Either by each individual choosing a record to add to the playlist or in a group discussion.

Location
Traditionally book clubs are held in a living room with 6 - 12 members, this works for Vinyl Clubs too.

However, larger attendance could lead to organising a venue such as a pub, The Glasgow Record Club has posted a link on the Records Club Map with a great location in the city center.

Summary
In a world where one sentance status updates on facebook and twitter are the norm, Vinyl Record Clubs are for pub/festival types who want to chat, socialise and have a proper conversation.

Staying In is the new Going Out
So why not try a Vinyl Club
If musics what you know about?

Hi Dale & Suzanne.

At the moment we only have a UK record clubs map, but if a few people think it's a good idea I can create a US one. We are a small company and rely on things like facebook to get the word out as we don't have much of an advertising budget. If anyone reading this thinks a US or World?!? map is a good idea please like or +1 on the link in the article or on this post.

This is the link to the page I created for the UK.

Interesting Hub...I'm not much of a joiner, but I would consider attending a vinyl club provided the members were nice and not snobs or men only.

Love the 'staying in is the new going out' sounds good to me! Thumbs up!

We meet the last Saturday of each month. Check the website for details of what we do.

We like it a lot! We do have talking, and that's probably the best bit. Lots of record related chatter with like minded people, great music (and an excellent bar). If you're in the area...
